Thanks to the fundraising efforts of some determined teenagers, 120 Riverview East Academy students in kindergarten–grade 6 have a new pair of sneakers just in time for summer.
More than 80 students, members of Kicks for Kids, the teen-led program under the Cleats for Kids nonprofit organization, got together for a dodgeball tournament before COVID-19. This dodgeball tournament was twofold, have lots of fun and raise enough money to purchase new sneakers to equip and empower an entire elementary school. Their hard work paid off with Kicks for Kids raising $1,600.
Bags of colorful sneakers lined the gymnasium floor and students were smiling from ear-to-ear on the day Cleats for Kids distributed the shoes.
"Cleats for Kids have been instrumental in the growth of elementary athletics and equitable opportunities for students in our district," said Josh Hardin, athletic manager. "Cleats for Kids and the teen division of Kicks for Kids are dedicated to making an impact for the youth in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area."
Cleats for Kids provides new and gently used sports equipment to children. Their efforts have provided over 16,000 items to youth throughout the region.
